HISTORY OF SEVENOAK KENYA EDUCATION TRUST
SKET was started in 2007 by two of our Trustees David and Jane Debenham. Having a home in the Rift Valley of Kenya, they know first hand the issues and problems facing the rural poor around them, in particular the matter of finding the money for schooling. The need to help was pressing… but how?
A successful method used by many UK Charities addressing similar needs is the sponsorship route with emphasis on a person to person arrangement whereby the donor knows who they help and vice versa. SKET has adopted this method.
SKET has grown continuously from a small beginning and has enjoyed year on year increases in income. From the outset the only overheads are small expense payments to its two volunteer Kenya Field Officers. This allows 100% of any donation to be directly paid to whichever school the student attends.
Is SKET different when compared to the much larger similar charities?Overall objectives might be the same but having feet on the ground in the right place, coupled with a very personal “no frills” approach, works well and has enabled us to make a mark at both ends of the UK – Kenya bridge.

What we do
We enable Kenyan teenagers from poor and broken families to complete their secondary education by paying their school fees without which schooling would be denied. Our funds to do this are raised in the UK from donations most often sourced from sponsors who are linked to a particular student.
SKET has three UK Trustees and two Kenyan Field Officers and is registered with the Charity Commission No. 1118914 and with an account at the CAF Bank.
